Cell-based Soft Robotics

Biorobots have garnered considerable interest in recent years as an alternative to artificial robots.

Various studies have been carried out leading to the development of these devices to perform biomimetic functions that traditional robots are not capable of executing. These devices have many advantages as compared to conventional artificial robots from their environmentally friendly operation to their self-sufficiency in their energy needs.

In Zorlutuna lab, using microfabrication techniques, we engineer muscle cell-based biological actuators and self-stabilized swimming biorobots. Ultimately, we aim to develop an autonomous biorobot, by integrating our muscle cell-based biocomputing networks to guide the direction and function of the device. Such devices can be potentially used for various advanced biomedical or incognito military applications.
