Sergio earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular/Cell Biology and Physiology at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) in May 2022. Following this, he went on to complete his master’s in biology at CSULB in May 2025. During his master’s program, he investigated novel non-complement roles for the innate immune protein, C1q, in microglia. Subsequently, he joined the Zorlutuna lab in Spring 2026, where he intends on applying his expertise in immunology and explore the influence of the extracellular matrix on macrophage function in breast cancer.
